Sanctuary in Times of Chaos

Somatics, Wisdom and Practice

A Self-Paced, 4-Session Retreat
with Richard Strozzi-Heckler, PhD, MCC

Including sessions with Staci Haines, Anjali Sawhney, Maura Bairley, Wendy Haines and special guests

A somatic reality reveals that by embodying our aliveness we are able to have a direct experience of our interconnectedness to all of life. This opens us to the responsibility we have for the preciousness of the time we have together on this extraordinary planet. We can think of ourselves as having an obligation to the shared moments with others and the environment. By affirming this aspect of life… we open our hearts to the utter mystery of being alive in this breath, with the acorns falling from the oaks and the stars burning in the night sky, being consumed by wonder and awe.

— Richard Strozzi-Heckler,
Embodying the Mystery

hello,

When you embody your aliveness, you access a direct experience of interconnectedness.

This opens you to feeling your responsibility for how you spend your time on this planet. You have an obligation to the moments you share with others rooted in your very being.

By affirming this aspect of life, you open your heart to the utter mystery of being alive in this breath…. With the acorns falling from the oaks and the stars burning in the night sky, consumed by wonder and awe.

You don’t have to travel far to discover this new way of being: it’s already within you.

You can awaken your body right now to its inherent wisdom potential.

This is the embodied spiritual path.

Join us for a special retreat experience led by master teacher Richard Strozzi-Heckler:

Sanctuary in Times of Chaos: Somatics, Wisdom and Practice

Session 1 – Ground: The Life of Spirit

Session 2 – Entering onto the Path of Practice

Session 3 – Eclipsing the Self: Exploring States of Consciousness

Session 4 – The Unbounded Space

As you walk this path in four, self-paced video sessions, you will:

  • Discover your own embodiment of energy, Mystery, and Self through practice so you can cultivate your own embodied spirituality
  • Recognize the “shapes” of your feelings, experiences, culture and society in your body so you can use them as informants in your quest for authenticity
  • Explore how your body is a doorway to grounded compassion—a way to love the world, and let the world love you
  • Dignify uncertainty and embody vulnerability as you deepen in practice so you can let go of the what no longer serves and let go into the unknown…

We look forward to being with you in this inquiry of embodying spirit and mystery.

Warmly,

Richard Strozzi-Heckler, PhD, MCC
Staci Haines, Anjali Sawhney, Maura Bairley, Wendy Haines
and Team Strozzi

how will sanctuary in times of chaos benefit you right now?

Gently steer yourself towards what matters to you most so you have more love and less suffering.

Establish your boundaries and take a stand for yourself to develop greater capacity for choice.

Know what questions to ask, how to stay with those questions, and how to let go of controlling what isn’t solvable yet so you can stay curious and hold the complexity.

Have more clarity of purpose, and stay in meaningful action so you experience less internal chaos and self-questioning.

Develop authenticity and build trust through authentic action

The body isn’t simply an object or a tool, but the shape of our aliveness. Our actions, emotions, and moods are not led by a disembodied mind but by the inherent wisdom of our soma. In this view we don’t have bodies, we are bodies.

Richard Strozzi-Heckler, from Embodying the Mystery

Here's What's Inside

sanctuary in times of chaos

Somatics, Wisdom and Practice

These four video sessions with Richard are designed to be viewed at your own pace. We suggest committing to a retreat schedule when you are ready to begin, allowing some time between sessions to let your soma integrate your deep exploration. You can go through the whole retreat in a single weekend, over four days, four weeks, or longer, revisiting the teachings and practices as necessary.

Session 1 - Ground: The life of spirit

What does it mean to engage with Spirit — not as a concept or good idea — but as something that lives within the temple of the body? Start your retreat with this inquiry into how you are drawn into the life of Spirit, and explore your Dojo/Place of Awakening/Spiritual lineage by working through the body.

In our opening session, you will learn:

Session 2 - Entering Onto The path of practice

Next, you will examine how your past conditioning sabotages your present and how to work with it, and you will learn practices to distinguish between the apparent, the unseen, and the sacred.

In Session 2 you will explore:

Session 3 - Eclipsing the self: exploring states of consciousness

In this session, you will be guided deeper into your practices and become more intimate with what is relevant now to your life. You will work with dignifying fear in a somatic way, and explore your emotions as guides to healing and spiritual life.

In Session 3 you will examine:

Session 4 - The Unbounded Space

Finally, you will be called to let go of what is no longer relevant and to let go into the Mystery. From here, you can examine: what keeps you from letting go? And how can you deepen your practice?

In the final session of this retreat, you will learn:

1) A special Friday session to welcome you and orient you to the retreat

Frequently asked questions:

This retreat has an entirely different format to prior Embodying the Mystery retreats. Participants will still learn directly from Richard’s decades of wisdom and experience with the addition of new instructors in the afternoon who bring their unique social locations, genders, and ethnicities. Also, similar to yoga — where you attend more than one class — this is a practice; each time you show up a new version of you is present to absorb and integrate the practices with a new perspective.

No, embodiment work is for all bodies. Every practice we share has a seated or standing option.
