About Maggie Williams

Maggie Williams works as a social justice advocate, lawyer, and somatic coach. She is the co-founder of the Advocacy Institute, which works to transform the legislative and political landscape of New York for justice and dignity.

The Advocacy Institute trains and supports social justice and movement building organizations to lead more effective and efficient legislative campaigns.  Before co-founding AI, Maggie worked in the New York State Senate and as an advocate on criminal justice issues. Maggie started studying somatics with Strozzi Institute in August of 2011 and became a certified somatic coach in December of 2012.

Maggie attributes the powerful ways that she has expanded her offer – with individual coaching clients, with the team at the Advocacy Institute, and in her personal life – to the study of somatics.

Since becoming a coach, Maggie has studied with Strozzi’s partner organization, generative somatics, worked with clients one-on-one, led a process to integrate somatics into staff development at the Advocacy Institute, and based core elements of her social justice work on somatic principles. She is excited to join the teaching team and help others to expand their offers in new ways.

What is Strozzi Somatics?
Strozzi Institute is a network of dedicated teachers with advanced training in somatics theory and practice. We provide an evolving methodology that assesses culturally conditioned tendencies and uses the body and shaping — a term to describe how we physically hold and embody conditioning, even when it doesn’t align with our values — to support long-lasting transformation for individuals and the collective.

At Strozzi Institute, our goal is to empower individuals and the collective to recognize and move through conditioned tendencies and historical shaping that restrain growth and to identify and hold consciously chosen values front and center. We provide training and tools that utilize the body and somatic practices to support embodiment of life-giving visions and values to achieve transformation and true desires.

Over 50 years, we’ve fine-tuned a unique and powerful methodology that reliably produces sustained change. Strozzi Somatics teaches the “how” in actualizing the best leadership and coaching ideas, theories, and intentions — not just for individuals, but for coaches, teams, and companies around the world.

Strozzi Institute’s methodologies empower transformational change through the body.
